TASTING NOTES:

Intense, brilliant garnet‐red colored bold red wine. It reveals lovely fruits, loads of body and a heavy bouquet of ground peppers, raspberries, cherry liqueur, currants, and spice box.

Rich and elegant, thanks to the harmony of all its elements. Full‐bodied and dense, it tastes more like a “baby Châteauneuf-du-Pape” than a simple Côtes du Rhône.

Grape variety : 70% Grenache Noir, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre

CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED BY:

Jeb Dunnuck: 94

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: 92

SERVING SUGGESTIONS:

Excellent with grilled and aged meats, spicy, sweet and savory fusion style dishes. Serve at a temperature of no more than 65°F. Most appreciated between 1 and 6 years of age.

THE WINERY:

DOMAINE GRAND VENEUR “Les Champauvins” is a hidden jewel, on the edge of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape demarcation. It stretches on 34 hectares technically classified as Côtes du Rhône. The plots are located in the northern border of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, exactly 3 yards outside the legendary appellation. A small lane of rocks going through the rocky plateaux has been designated the Châteauneuf-du-Pape limit in 1936.

HISTORY: Established in the northern part of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the Jaume family has been dedicated to the art of wine growing since 1826. In the 14th century, during their stay in Avignon, the Pope built a papal castle in Châteauneuf-du-Pape (“New castle of the Popes”). Impressed by the area's exceptional “terroir” (the soil and its growing conditions), they planted vineyards around the castle on terraces covered with characteristic large smooth rounded stones, which get very hot during the day in the hot sun, and keep the vine roots warm during the cold nights, providing perfect condition for wine grapes.
